Five major groups make the airplane work as one system

Organize the airplane into the fuselage, wings, empennage, landing gear, and powerplant. Each group carries loads and supports one or more flight functions.

  • The fuselage houses occupants, controls, and equipment.
  • The wings create most of the lift and commonly contain fuel.
  • The empennage provides stability and pitch-and-yaw control.
  • Landing gear supports ground operations; the powerplant produces thrust.
